Route: Junction Unterwielenbach -> Wielenberg -> Platten -> Thalerhof -> Erdpyramidenweg -> Oberwielenbach (Schießstandweg)
This tour is manageable in terms of length and walking time. But you will certainly spend a lot more time looking, marveling and reading. You will come across the idyllic hamlet of Wielenberg with its quaint farms, the pretty church of St. Kolomans and a nature trail at the herb farm at the end of the hamlet. The view of the Puster Valley basin and the Dolomites opposite is also worth admiring, as is the hamlet of Platten. The fascinating earth pyramids change color depending on the time of day and the incidence of light and can be admired from the lovingly designed vantage points. The Pyramid Trail opens up the world of geology in an interesting way.
This tour is taken from the book “Öffi Touren in Südtirol” by Rosmarie Rabanser Gafriller (Athesia Tappeiner Verlag).
This walk is also very pleasant in autumn thanks to the many larch trees along the way.
It is recommended to have the departure times for public transport in mind before starting the hike (using the " suedtirolmobil" app). Not all areas are equipped with a functioning internet connection.
At the bus stop (985 m), follow Wielenstraße northwards until path 16 turns off to the right, which takes you through the forest and then along a steep meadow path to the hamlet of Wielenberg (1140 m). Keep left towards the church and continue until you reach the Hauserhof (herb farm). There you could possibly take the small circular trail (Sonnwendpfad), equipped with informative stations and small works of art, and hike along this to the Sonnwendstein. Alternatively, you can take the direct path 16A, which immediately turns off to the right from forest path 16 after the Kräuterhof and goes into the forest and uphill past the aforementioned Sonnwendstein. It turns into a meadow path, describes a left-hand bend and there you can see a path to the left to Platten (refreshment stop, 1410 m). Follow this up to the pretty hamlet and then turn right downhill at road 16A and follow this (changes to no. 1A) to the Thalerhof. Before the farm building, turn left up the steps, continue on path 1A and at the next fork turn left onto path 1B up a steep incline. You reach an asphalt road and, keeping to the right, continue to the earth pyramids (1555 m). There are several viewpoints there, two of which can be reached on the descent. You then return to the point where the pyramid trail leaves the asphalt road on the right, a nicely designed themed trail on which you initially walk along the edge of the forest and then through the forest to the parking lot on the road to Platten. From there, walk along the road for around 200 meters in the direction of Oberwielenbach (i.e. to the right). You come to a hiking trail (Pyramidencafe), which leads off to the left. You soon reach an asphalt road and keep left along this until you reach the bus stop.
The bus stop "Abzweigung Unterwielenbach" (near Percha) can be reached by bus lines 402, 431 and 432.
