Scenic circular hike from Tesselberg above Percha, to the solitary summit "Geige", with possibility to stop at the charming dairy "Tesselberger Alm".

The circular walk to the summit of the Geige combines a panoramic peak with a pleasant stopover and varied natural scenery. After a shaded ascent through dense coniferous forest, a vast alpine pasture landscape opens up above the tree line, offering views of the summit cross and the surrounding mountains. At the top, you’ll be treated to an impressive panorama of Bruneck, the lower Ahrntal valley and the striking peaks of the Rieserferner and Zillertal Alps. The return route leads towards the rustic Tesselberger Alm, which is open from June to September and invites you to enjoy a cosy break with regional specialities. Finally, the route takes you back to the starting point at a leisurely pace along the babbling Tesselberger stream. The walk is ideal for anyone wishing to combine a varied hike with magnificent views, the enjoyment of alpine nature and a stop for refreshments at a traditional alpine hut.

Geige is one of the three stages of the beautiful Geige-Kor-Schönbichl circular summit walk. To do this, from the summit cross follow trail marker no. 8.

Starting point

Parking lot near the church

Directions

At the hiking signpost just above the parking lot, follow sign 7A to the left and walk along the farm road for a while. Just before the last farmsteads, turn left onto forest path no. 7A, which takes you on a fairly steep climb through a shady coniferous forest. Once you reach the tree line, follow the narrow meadow path up to the summit of the Geige, which is already visible. From the viewing bench at the foot of the summit cross, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Brunico, the lower Ahrntal valley and the surrounding mountains. For the return journey, first descend the well-known meadow path before turning left at the nearest fork onto trail no. 7A, that leads you on a gentle traverse to the rustic Tesselberger Alm at the foot of the Schönbichl, which invites you to take a leisurely break from June to September. You then hike back to the starting point on the wide forest track No. 7.

Tesselberg is only accessible by car. Alternatively, you can take bus no. 450 to Gais, bus stop "Dorf", and then walk up to Tesselberg (approx. 1h walking time).

How to get there

From Bruneck, follow the Pustertal SS49 road towards Percha and, at the first junction after the petrol station at the entrance to the village, turn left onto Oberwielenbach Straße. After about 2 km, at the junction, turn left onto the road towards Amaten and continue on to Tesselberg.
