Bruneck's Stadtgasse

The centrepiece of the town of which we are extremely proud: the picturesque Stadtgasse in the historic centre of Bruneck. Flanked by splendid townhouses with lovely bay windows and colourful façades, the cobbled street runs in a wide semicircle around the castle hill. By the way, the street came into being around 1250, at the same time as Bruneck Castle. At that time all of the through traffic in the Puster Valley passed along it – nowadays though, Stadtgasse is a pedestrian zone and one of the loveliest boulevards in South Tyrol. Our tip: Take a seat at a table in front of one of the cafés and let the unique atmosphere of the town work its magic on you.

Bruneck Castle & MMM Ripa

Bruneck Castle: bishops and princes once stayed the night within its splendid walls. Today, this imposing castle above the town is home to a museum dedicated to the mountain peoples of the world. Messner Mountain Museum RIPA tells visitors all about the way of life of the cultures that have lived in and with the mountains for centuries. “The Heritage of the Mountains” is not a traditional exhibition but rather a place where people can meet and learn from one another.

Forest cemetery & 3 lakes

On a woody hillside south of Bruneck lying peacefully alongside one another are the remains of hundreds of soldiers from different countries and religions. In 1915, the forest cemetery was created at the instigation of the town authorities, to create a final resting place for the countless fallen of the First World War. Today, this cautionary memorial, which was established according to plans designed by the Engineer Regiment officer and architect, Albert Bechtold, is among the most striking sights in Bruneck.

Earth Pyramids

Hundreds of artistic pillar-like structures that rise steeply up into the sky. We are talking about the Earth Pyramids in Percha. One of Mother Nature’s masterpieces. Rainfall and dry periods gave her a hand and taking turns have produced the strange earth pillars with their stone caps. The process has taken many hundreds of years. By the time, after a short hike, you have stood and marvelled at them, you will agree with us that the walk was well worthwhile.

Lumen & MMM Corones

LUMEN

Immerse yourself in the history of mountain photography. The best place to do it is where you’ll find the loveliest mountains. The Kronplatz, on the edge of the Dolomites. High up on the summit plateau, LUMEN guides you through the multifaceted world of mountain photography. With historic photographs, digital innovation and the artworks of famous photographers from all over the world, there is plenty to marvel at.

MMM Corones

The summit plateau of the Kronplatz, 2,275 metres above sea level, between the azure blue sky and rugged mountains: no coincidence that extreme mountaineer, Reinhold Messner, established his sixth Messner Mountain Museum right here. MMM Corones displays artistic objects, climbing equipment and exhibits from Messner’s time as an active mountaineer. You can experience the history of alpinism, coupled with spectacular architecture here.

South Tyrolean Folklore Museum

How would it be if history suddenly came to life? And you were right in the middle of it all, between ancient farmhouses, creaking mill wheels and workshops with equipment from long gone days? Why not give it a try? In the South Tyrolean Museum of Folk Traditions in Dietenheim, things are just as they were when rural society in the Puster Valley still consisted of nobles, farmers and day labourers. Look forward to travelling in time through five centuries of history!
