Stadtgasse

The Stadtgasse, the main shopping street in Bruneck, is lined on both sides by quaint buildings. The old frescoes on some of these buildings, and the various gable constructions, are noteworthy.

The buildings in the Stadtgasse are exclusively residential buildings in which some shops and restaurants are housed on some of the upper floor sand on the ground floor.

The city gates

The Ragentor (town gate)
Leads to the upper part of the town. Once this gate was of little importance for traffic and transport as it was only used as "Death path" on which the dead from Außerragen (part of the town) were carried to the cemetery.

The Ursulinentor (town gate)
The gate was demaged in the year 1758 because of the transportation of a big foutain into the city; the paintings come from Johannes of Bruneck around 1420.

The Rienztor (town gate)
Was called "tor bey dem spital" (gate near the hospital). From there the old Pustertal road led across the Fleischbruggen bridge through the present Bruder-William-Strasse road.

The Florianitor (town gate)
Formerly called "Lucke"(gap), bears a painting made by the South Tyrolean artist Rudolf Stolz (1874-1960) showing Saint Florian, Bruneck`s coat of arms and the town’s founder, Bishop Bruno.
